What is Planned Giving?

Planned giving is the process of considering your unique circumstances to develop a strategy that fulfills your charitable goals as well as your financial needs. Planned gifts involve an arrangement between a donor and the Family Care Network, whereby the donor takes a partial tax deduction for the gift and then receives an income stream from the agency. Often, a planned gift can result in additional income for the rest of your life. Always, a planned gift is an opportunity to establish a lasting legacy with the Family Care Network to benefit children, youth and families in need for generations to come.

Include the Family Care Network in your Will

The easiest and most common way for most people to make a lasting impact, is by including the Family Care Network in your will. By having your attorney revise your will or add a simple amendment, you can make a charitable bequest of a dollar amount, specific property, or a specific percentage or amount of your estate after providing for your other heirs.

Beneficiary Proceeds

Too often, the significant tax advantage of naming a charity as beneficiary of a qualified asset is missed because the donor forgets to complete and return the appropriate beneficiary form to the plan administrator.  Attempting to accomplish the designation only in the will or living trust may result in adverse tax consequences.  When naming the Family Care Network as the beneficiary of a qualified asset such as an IRA, tax sheltered annuity, or 401(k) or 403(b) plan, or of another product such as a life insurance contract, the donor should:

  1. Request the beneficiary change form from the plan administrator or agent
  2. Use the following in the appropriate boxes on the form:
    • Beneficiary Name:  Family Care Network, Inc.
    • Beneficiary Address: 3765 S. Higuera St., Suite 100, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401
    • Tax-id: 77-0159090
  3. Return the signed form to the appropriate address.
