Why Does the Family Care Network Needs Volunteers?
One of the most recent positive changes at the Family Care Network has been the dramatic increase in the number of community volunteers supporting our agency. Virtually every agency program and event has been improved by our giving volunteers. Whether it is stuffing envelopes in the office, directing crowds or serving food at an event, or mentoring or tutoring a youth; individuals from our community have added tremendously to the agency’s overall success. The Family Care Network understands that the quality and strength of a community-based organization can be gauged by its volunteer program, and, for this reason, the agency is committed to making our volunteers feel utilized and appreciated. The agency invites you to join us and become a part of the Family Care Network team, working to enhance the wellbeing of foster and high-needs children and families on the Central Coast.

Who are Family Care Network Volunteers?
The Family Care Network’s volunteers come in all shapes and sizes! The agency has tasks and projects for everyone, regardless of age or available time.

• For those 18 or older who want to work directly with our kids and families, the agency offers long-term volunteer opportunities such as mentoring and tutoring.

• The agency also offers one-time volunteer projects for those with limited time who may want to help out at a special event or on other short-term projects.

• We also have many on-going volunteer opportunities for local churches, community service groups, elementary schools, senior citizen clubs, organizations and businesses.

• Volunteers are needed in various parts of both Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

All of the Family Care Network’s volunteer programs are “strength-based,” ensuring that a volunteer’s passions and skills are properly matched with the agency’s needs.

How Volunteers Impacted the Family Care Network in the 2009-2010 Fiscal Year:

• 129 volunteers worked directly with the foster and high-needs children served by the agency as interns, mentors and tutors.

• 1,085 different volunteers donated 27,989 hours of their time, energy and heart to the Family Care Network!
