Event Volunteer

Special events allow us to partner with our community to better serve local foster and high-needs children and families. The money raised and resources garnered from holding events would simply not exist without our hard-working and dedicated event volunteers. Event volunteers are absolutely critical in connecting generous hearts with those in need!

Miracle Miles for Kids:
Miracle Miles for Kids, a 10K Walk/Run from Morro Rock to the Cayucos Pier, takes place every spring along one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in California. After the race, there is a celebration with live music, lunch, a diverse vendor fair, children’s activities and an award ceremony. All of the proceeds from the event go directly to the foster and high-needs children and families on the Central Coast served by the Family Care Network.  Visit the event website at www.mm4k.com.

Volunteer tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Distribute event posters to businesses a few months before the event
  • Promote the event at the Family Care Network’s booth at Farmers Market in San Luis Obispo
  • Stuff event goody bags prior to the event
  • Assist with bib pick-up stations prior to the event
  • Early morning set up on event day
  • Help with walk-up registration
  • Pass out water and goody bags
  • Help prepare and serve lunch
  • Break down and clean-up after the event

Taste of the Central Coast:
The Taste of the Central Coast is an elegant fine foods and wine tasting event that showcases local talent while raising funds to support the local foster and high-needs children and families served by the agency. This elegant afternoon event is held each autumn at the Cypress Ridge Pavilion in Arroyo Grande, and includes a live and silent auction where guests bid on beautiful items and services donated from local businesses. All proceeds earned at the event support services and programs that directly benefit children, youth and families on the Central Coast. Visit the event website at tasteofthecentralcoast.com.

Volunteer tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the procurement of quality auction items from community donors
  • Set-up auction items, guest tables and décor
  • Register and guide guests upon arrival
  • Assist featured chefs and vintners by distributing samples to guests
  • Break down and clean up after the event

Holiday Events:
Every year the Family Care Network partners with the Central Coast community to provide those we serve with a unique holiday celebration, working together to restore hope and create lasting memories. The Sponsor a Child for the Holidays gift gathering effort involves Family Care Network children, youth and families writing out their holiday gift wishes for the community to fulfill. In addition to the Sponsor a Child for the Holidays effort, the agency also hosts two Annual Holiday Open House events, one for San Luis Obispo County and one for Santa Barbara County. Both events enable every child, youth and family served by the agency to participate in a truly magical holiday celebration.

Volunteer tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Sponsor a child by purchasing gifts on their wish list
  • Help wrap gifts
  • Serve food and help in the kitchen
  • Assist children with craft projects

Miscellaneous Events:
In conjunction with the three annual events, throughout the year the Family Care Network holds smaller, community-produced events. A few examples include AGO BBQ and Polar Express.

Alpha Gamma Omega (AGO), A faith-based fraternity, hosts a Back-to-School BBQ for the children and youth served by the Family Care Network at the end of the summer. Volunteers are needed to gather back-to-school items and help at the BBQ.

Le Vigne Winery in Paso Robles helps make the Polar Express children’s story come alive in the vintage train located at their winery. This magical event includes a reading of the Polar Express story, hot chocolate, cookies and even a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus! Volunteers are needed to help decorate the interior of the train prior to the event as well as help out at the event.
