Speakers-Presentation Services: Presentation Topics
  1. Career Opportunities – This will provide students with an overview of career opportunities within the field of Mental Health and therapeutic foster care, as well as successful strategies in preparing for the professional workplace.
  2. Current Trend in Children’s Mental Health in California – Students will receive an overview of guiding principles and resent legislation focused on transforming the California’s Mental Health system. Discussion can include: evidence/promising practices, “Wraparound”, co-occurring disorders, key litigation and the Mental Health Services Act.
  3. Working with Children and Youth in the Foster Care System – Students will receive an overview of the different out-of-home programs and services which are alternatives to institutional care.
  4. The Importance of Cultural Competencies in Providing Children and Family Services – This presentation will focus on enhancing students’ knowledge of cultural competency, as well as successful strategies for integrating clients’/families’ unique cultures into case planning.
  5. Transitional Housing Services Available to Former Foster Care Youth, Ages16 to 24 – Provides an overview of two innovative programs which are focused on assisting youth with successfully transitioning to independent living.
  6. The Impact of Stigma on Children with Mental Illness – Presentation addresses the negative perceptions facing an individual and their support structure of family members and friends.
  7. Children and Youth with Learning Disabilities – Understanding the dynamics of self-esteem and successful strategies in working with and obtaining resources.
  8. Working with Children and/or Youth that are Involved or at Risk of Being Involved with Juvenile Justice Involvement – Provides an overview of risk factors that raise red flags for families and professionals within the Human Services industry. Discussion will include alternative strategies for working with families/children/youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
